Time in Milan

[lots of pics in this one].

A bit off of the linear route through Germany, we took a quick flight from Munich to Milan. Probably could have trained there and might have made more sense since the Milan airport we flew into is pretty far out of the city, but either way it was a fun, worthwhile adventure down there.

Milan is a historic, beautiful, religious, tasty food place.

We went to a handful of old churches and Basilicas. Sadly, we found out when we arrived to see the Last Supper painting by Da Vinci that we needed a reservation well in advance, so we weren’t able to get in.

Then, we went to the main square in Milan, Duomo. With it being Christmas time, it was particularly wild and hectic. In the square, there is a massive cathedral that totally blew us away. Going inside the following day was even more astounding for the intricate art and vastness.

In the same area was a large Christmas market, and the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. Being a few days from Christmas, on a Thursday night, the Galleria was packed. As is, it might be the largest, most extravagant galleria in the world, with Milan being such a fashion hub and the area being so historic and trafficked. During Christmas it was absolutely insane. There were endless floods of people shopping what felt like endless clothing. It was pretty surreal.

Then, we went to the Museo Del Novecento that’s right on the square for some historic and famous art. Then, a super tasty dinner. Italian food in Italy is awesome.

The following day, we started at the Sforza Castle. It was a historic area that seemingly used to be a fortress. The buildings were beautiful and there was tons of art inside, including Michelangelo’s last ever, unfinished sculpture.

Then we went back to the square to shop and go inside the Cathedral (pic above).

Following that, we made our way over to the Brera neighborhood for drinks at a really cool place called Ugo and then another awesome dinner. Brera was cool with a channel of water running through, and was super pretty at night during Christmas time.

At first, Milan was super overwhelming with all of the history, fashion, art and people. It ended up being one of my favorite places, though. There was tons to do, it was easy to get around, amazing food, tons of history, and also different than everywhere else we’d been in Europe. The vibe felt a bit more high-class fashiony to me. I didn’t like it at first, but it’s super energizing and fun. Glad we were able to make it down to Italy.
