My day in Munich
Munich was the city I’ve visited that I could most see myself living in.
I went into the time there a bit pessimistic because it’s a very expensive city and I had a quick layover there a few days ago that I didn’t much enjoy.
I ended up loving it, though, and wish we had more than just a day there (planning could have been a bit better). There’s tons of history there, many international people, good food, beer and awesome museums with buzzing life.
We went to the main square, Marienplatz, seeing massive cathedrals, markets and tons of life. They have super vast Christmas markets now for the season, as well as a larger year-round market called Viktualienmarkt that had lots of food, warm and cold, as well as many shops.
Then, the plan was to hit two or three museums. We started at their museum of science and technology, which is the biggest science and tech museum in the world. Ended up staying there for about three hours, though, and not reaching the other museums.
They had exhibits on anything you could imagine. It was so vast, well-done and mentally stimulating. I wish I had even more time there. I was particularly intrigued by the mining exhibit that opened my eyes to how important, influential, and consuming mining has been in our history.
The exhibits ranged the entire gamut, though, from musical instruments to physics to astrology. It was a super wonderful place. It made me want to come back to that museum each day for two-three weeks to just learn everything in there, using the exhibits and history to supplement the learning. Maybe will get the chance one day.
After that, we went to a famous, 400-year-old beer hall called the Hofbrauhaus. There must have been thousands of people in there, it was super crowded with awesome beer. Very gross cookie we bought from the lady walking around, though.
Then we got a super tasty at YUM thai kitchen & bar — probably the best thai food I’ve ever had.
Unfortunately after that, and another walk through the Christmas market, it was time to move on.
Hope to be back in not too long.
