My day in Bratislava

I’m super glad I went to Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. I’d heard nothing about the place, but it was basically on my way, and I thought it’d be, at worst, an interesting adventure.

I got there late afternoon after a long train ride from Krakow. The train ride itself had some beautiful countryside that I passed.

Countryside on the way from Krakow to Bratislava

A lot of looking out the window was small villages and towns. It felt like it took me back in time to a more simple world.

When I got to Bratislava, I grabbed dinner at this place called Bratislava Flagship Restaurant that was awesome. They created a restaurant in a former church, so the building is massive and beautiful, and it’s attached to a brewery where they brew their own beer that they serve. Was amazing food.

Then, I went to a fun Christmas market in one of their main squares.

The next day, I started by going to their UFO, which is a massive tower they built, although I’m not exactly sure why.

Either way, it was the most beautiful, breathtaking overview I can remember.

It covered the entire skyline where there were old buildings on one part, including the Bratislava Castle, there were newer block-shaped and colorful modern ones in a different part, there was a river (or some body of water), forests, and then wind power generators one on side and coal plants on the other. The photos can’t really do it justice, but still worth including.

Was breathtaking up there.

Then, I went to the Bratislava Castle, which was historic, massive, and also, surprisingly to me, contained some art. I walked from there to this upside down radio building that had really cool architecture. Then, I grabbed some food, walked past a blue church, that even in the night was super vibrant. Then, I went to a Slovak art museum which was an awesome choice.

There were some beautiful paintings of landscapes as well as some more abstract ones — I’m very much an art novice, but enjoy going and trying to learn more.

Then, I grabbed some dinner and hopped on a bus to Vienna.

I was extremely happy with my stay in Bratislava. I thought the city treated me splendidly. I got to see some beautiful places, a different culture, eat awesome food, and experience some art. If it’s convenient, would definitely recommend a day and night there.
